Jesse Garcia and Annie Gonzalez will be starring.
A biopic about the inventor of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos is slated to begin filming soon and Eva Longoria is officially on board as its director. Richard Montañez was a janitor at Frito-Lay when he came up with the idea for Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and they’ve been a snack staple ever since.
Montañez was inspired by his Mexican heritage which is what helped him come up with the spice mix that coats Flamin’ Hot chips today. When a broken assembly machine caused a batch of Cheetos to come out plain and un-dusted, he took them home and coated them in chili powder before pitching the idea to the Frito-Lay CEO of the time. According to Deadline, Eva beat out a number of other directors for the spot by explaining that she wanted to stay true to the story and culture behind the popular snack.

The biopic will be produced by Fox Searchlight and is already set to feature actors Jesse Garcia and Annie Gonzalez in starring roles. This is impactful because both Jesse and Annie are Mexican-American actors, a detail that Eva told Variety is important to the storyline.
“[It is] my biggest priority to make sure we are telling Richard Montañez’s story authentically. I am so happy to have two extremely talented and fellow Mexican Americans on board in these pivotal roles,” Eva told the outlet: “Jesse and Annie have a deep understanding of our community and will be able to help tell this story of great importance for our culture.”
You can preorder Richard Montañez’s book that chronicles the creation of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos right now on Amazon. Flamin’ Hot: The Incredible True Story of One Man’s Rise from Janitor to Top Executive will be available on June 15.
